Welcome to OC Black Moms

We are so glad your here

What began five years ago as a small Facebook group has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to celebrating, connecting, and empowering Black families in Orange County, California.

Today, OC Black Moms is over a 1,000 moms strong community where we connect, share resources, organize gatherings, and occasionally exchange the kind of parenting wisdom that can only be delivered by someone who has already survived the toddler years.

Along the way we’ve discovered incredible local businesses, hosted hundreds of playdates and events, celebrated Black excellence right here in Orange County, and built the kind of village that makes motherhood feel a little more joyful (and a lot less lonely).

Whether you’re looking for trusted resources, can’t-miss community events, or simply a group of mothers who understand exactly why hair day, after school activities, and weekend schedules deserve their own organizational system — you’ve come to the right place.

Take a look around. Read the blog. Explore the resources. And most importantly, join us in continuing to build a community that celebrates and supports Black families in Orange County.

Because around here, we believe motherhood works best with a village.

And if the village occasionally shows up in sweater sets with wine and excellent recommendations for a good stylist… well, even better.

About Me

Hi! I’m Kalie — founder Held & Rooted Inc, community builder OC Black Moms, and voice behind Silk & Cedar. I’m deeply passionate about cultivating meaningful spaces for women, getting lost in historical fiction, exploring new corners of the world, and, one day, genuinely learning to enjoy the art of cooking.

After five beautiful years building the OC Black Moms community, that community will soon continue its next chapter inside the Held & Rooted app, a more intentional space we’re building for connection, resources, and real-life community.

Silk & Cedar now serves as my personal corner of the internet: a place for reflections on motherhood, marriage, culture, ambition, and modern life. Hope to see you IRL soon, but in the meantime… stay awhile and enjoy.
